Freak de l’Afrique are a group of DJs and party promoters. They placed Berlin on the international map of Afrobeats & Afro House.

DJ Wallizz and DJ Nomi are both from Berlin. They have run monthly parties such as “The Afro House Experience”, “Bantu’s Diary” or “Black Paper”.

Hence they created a nightlife audiovisual experience that fusions rhythms of African clubs with sounds from the Berlin clubbing scene.

Expanding their vision, Wallizz and Cambel decided to start their own project called Freak de l’Afrique (The Monster of Africa). Recently the collective has started to incorporate audiovisual in their shows and performances.

Their aim is to bring the modern side of African music to the clubbing scene.

Through music, events and fashion they continuously spread a lifestyle inspired by Africa. It is forward-thinking, unexpected, sometimes provocative but above all positive!

Among their project we find “Wena – Jame”: A Journey through Afropolitan Musical Encounters. Wena translates into the pronoun “you”. It comes from the Zulu, one of many languages in South Africa. “Wena” is often used to ask someone to do something.

The project is the result of the combined effort among Freak de l’Afrique sound system, six dancers and a team of creative light and projection artist.

They all invite you (WENA!) to join them on a journey through the modern musical landscape of Africa and its diaspora.

This trip unravels as a 90-minute stage show with DJs, dancers and visual art with music from Ghana, Congo, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Tanzania, Angola, South Africa and many other places.

The collective wants to develop audiovisual content and projection mapping to make the experience more immersive.

They aim to connect the dancers, the music and the audiovisual content with an urban, modern and futuristic style rather than the traditional cliché one.

I think the concept is very powerful, not only for the magical moment they bring but also because of its originality.

I definitely look forward to seeing how it evolves! We will definitely keep an eye on them, as we always follow closely any type of audiovisual innovation.

The live shows are a surreal, “live cinema” experience, combining projected animations with the electronic soundtracks and a live vocals performance.

The show “No Man’s Land” has been presented in cinema, theatre and gallery spaces, including Auckland Art Gallery, Auckland Moving Image Centre, and the Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art, and their music videos have been screened on The Arts Channel on Sky TV New Zealand, as well as festivals including NEON digital arts Festival Scotland and the London Independent Film Festival.

In 2012, Fiona was granted funding through Creative Scotland to make new audio/visual collaborative work, and these new pieces form part of the live show, as well as being included on the latest audio release, the “Tower Of Babel” EP, which was released in Nov 2012 on the Black Lantern Music netlabel.

They settle us in a galactic and organic space.

Rayo Verde collective and Nidra are merged into Friendship (FRSHP), generating a space of multisensory stimulation and audiovisual installation to gather friends into the ritual of dance.

Exploring and transforming styles that go through the tribal, deep, traveler and progressive, incorporating friendly rhythms and songs that invite you to share and integrate with various instruments and dance into a session full of stimulus and movement.

Funfair Visual Artists are Kenna Grünn aka KenGrü and Carljohan Listherby aka Alpentopp, and their base is Stockholm, Sweden. They are both professional Creative Directors specialized in motion graphic and have started to play visuals as a crew in 2005.

They prepare gigs with the creation of the theme that should fit the music act at the club or installation together with the musicians, DJ:s and organizer to become a multimedia experience. Funfair develops installations at fairs, theatres and events.

For them, visual is a perfect element to mix commercial design with art and create live performance atmosphere that speaks to the audience at the right moment changing together with sound, light and picture.

Concept and theme are something that they strive to follow under a gig. They are filming, breaking and rebuilding as much as they are borrow, destroy and create.
