Freak de l’Afrique are a group of DJs and party promoters. They placed Berlin on the international map of Afrobeats & Afro House.

DJ Wallizz and DJ Nomi are both from Berlin. They have run monthly parties such as “The Afro House Experience”, “Bantu’s Diary” or “Black Paper”.

Hence they created a nightlife audiovisual experience that fusions rhythms of African clubs with sounds from the Berlin clubbing scene.

Expanding their vision, Wallizz and Cambel decided to start their own project called Freak de l’Afrique (The Monster of Africa). Recently the collective has started to incorporate audiovisual in their shows and performances.

Their aim is to bring the modern side of African music to the clubbing scene.

Through music, events and fashion they continuously spread a lifestyle inspired by Africa. It is forward-thinking, unexpected, sometimes provocative but above all positive!

Among their project we find “Wena – Jame”: A Journey through Afropolitan Musical Encounters. Wena translates into the pronoun “you”. It comes from the Zulu, one of many languages in South Africa. “Wena” is often used to ask someone to do something.

The project is the result of the combined effort among Freak de l’Afrique sound system, six dancers and a team of creative light and projection artist.

They all invite you (WENA!) to join them on a journey through the modern musical landscape of Africa and its diaspora.

This trip unravels as a 90-minute stage show with DJs, dancers and visual art with music from Ghana, Congo, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Tanzania, Angola, South Africa and many other places.

The collective wants to develop audiovisual content and projection mapping to make the experience more immersive.

They aim to connect the dancers, the music and the audiovisual content with an urban, modern and futuristic style rather than the traditional cliché one.

I think the concept is very powerful, not only for the magical moment they bring but also because of its originality.

I definitely look forward to seeing how it evolves! We will definitely keep an eye on them, as we always follow closely any type of audiovisual innovation.

Berlin, January 24 – February 2 2020

CTM’s 21st edition launches with an announcement of new performances, special projects, and commissioned works.

Combining unique productions, concerts, and club nights with a dense daytime programme of talks, discussions, installations, and an exhibition, CTM 2020 proposes multiple entry points into thinking about this year’s Liminal theme.

Liminal phenomena and states are transitional phases in which a familiar order sees its values and symbols destabilised; norms are suspended or turned on their heads. We find ourselves in ambiguous spaces, somewhere between a past that is no longer valid and an ever-becoming future.

TM 2020 will again play out across some of Berlin’s most standout cultural and nightlife venues. For the first time, the festival hosts special projects at Radialsystem V and an immersive listening series at Silent Green’s Betonhalle, while continuing its close relationship with HAU Hebbel am Ufer, Berghain, Kunstquartier Bethanien, Festsaal Kreuzberg, and SchwuZ. A limited number of Early-bird Festival Passes are available now.

As always, CTM takes place parallel to and in collaboration with transmediale festival. The jointly organised Vorspiel 2020 Open Call is out now. Vorspiel will again bring together a wide range of Berlin-based artists, initiatives, and venues, hosting a city-wide programme of cultural events.

Norbergfestival is a 20-year running festival, held on the abandoned iron mine site of Mimerlaven in Norberg, Sweden.

A growing group of artists presents contemporary music, performances, and interdisciplinary works. We make use of what the site provides and we sleep on the ground. We extract what we produce and leave the mine as it was left in 1981.

Norbergfestival brings experimental music and performing arts to the defunct mining site of Mimerlaven, centrally located in the small post-industrial town of Norberg, Västmanland, Sweden.

Three days a year, industrial concrete buildings transform into an international playground where festival visitors experience a multicolored spectrum of electronic music, sound art, and clubs. Norbergfestival offers a unique mixture of live electronic music at the spectacular location around Mimerlaven, an abandoned mining area in the small town of Norberg.

Since it’s inauguration in 1999, the festival has evolved from a utopian counter-cultural assembly to a national front-runner and internationally recognized platform for groundbreaking and unique musical experiences. Together with light and sound installations, workshops in the fields of audio and video and a friendly and creative atmosphere matched by none, this truly makes Norbergfestival one-of-a-kind.

In 17 years Norbergfestival has grown from being a utopian project for a handful of people into one of the most important annual events in the Scandinavian electronic music scene.

Lunchmeat is an annual international festival dedicated to advanced electronic music and new media art based in Prague, Czech Republic. Since 2010, it brings carefully selected creators from different art spheres together on one stage, creating a truly synesthetic experience.

The festival connects the dots between quality electronic music, visual shows, and new media while creating a truly synesthetic experience.

It brings carefully selected creators from different art spheres together on one stage; people, who themselves are often meeting for the first time.

Lunchmeat festival creates a platform for people who believe that club culture should not be taken lightly and those really good things capable of shaking the common ground are well worth seeking out and paying attention to.

Every year the Songo association organizes the Scopitone festival, dedicated to electronic cultures and digital arts. This internationally recognized festival offers a concentrate of today’s musical and digital creation. This multidisciplinary event highlights these artistic crossovers and is expected at each September break by more than 60,000 festival-goers.

Dedicated to the diffusion and the support for the creation and the accompaniment of the current music and the digital arts; Addressing a wide variety of audiences, intersecting discipline, and actors.

For artists, digital professionals, researchers, and businesses the Festival offers debates, talks, and workshops on the cross-cutting themes of innovation, scientific research, and digital creation. For school-kids, there are introductions to new art forms and techniques of digital production through visits, workshops and other events.

Scopitone has been staged every year since 2002 by Songo, the association responsible for running Stereolux, the center for contemporary music and digital creation in the Creative Quarter on the Île de Nantes.
Cinetrip is a must see bath party held in Széchenyi Bath twice a year. The summer edition is in August, the winter edition is around New Year’s Eve.

Sparty event series has been running for more than twenty-two years and now it is one of the most frequented events of the Hungarian capital with 50-55 thousand visitors annually (from 165 different countries).

Sparties are held almost all weekends of the year in either Lukacs or Szechenyi Bath, however, there are two occasions each year to take part in the outstanding musical and visual experience of Cinetrip Sparties.

From the world famous castle district to the endless maze of ruin pubs, there is no doubt that Budapest will serve to amaze and inspire all that choose to visit. There is but one party experience that stands tall above the rest. One experience that has never been, and will likely never be offered anywhere else on Earth.
